Racing Resumes on the Space Coast

Racing in the area is about to get started again.

MYC has stated they plan to resume the Rum Race series starting this coming Friday. They also intend to restart the Full Moon series as well (next scheduled in June), As as well as continuing Small Boat Sunday. It was stated that the MYC Spring regattas that were missed will not be rescheduled. No official word has yet been announced regarding when the newly rebranded “Women On the Water” series will officially restart, but they are considering a low key event for May 30th.

IRYC states that they intend to resume all series (Wednesday Night, Sunday, Dragon Point) starting in June. The annual Brevard Challenge regatta is cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

In out of town news, Halifax River Yacht Club has posted the NOR for their Old Timers Regatta on Regatta Network. This event is scheduled fire May 24th and People I have spoken with say the intent is to race from the Ponce MoA boy north up the beach to the Main Street Pier area and then back again — roughly 20 miles point-to-point. There are no shore-based activities with this regatta, but there may be an online skippers meeting. At least one local boat intends to make the trip up for this race.

I have heard scuttlebutt that Fort Pierce is considering an offshore event, but I do not have any concrete information on this.

April Racing on the Space Coast

IRYC has reported that for the immediate future, all racing is canceled. This includes the Sunday series, the Wednesday Night series, and the Dragon Point series.

MYC has reported that all big boat racing is canceled. This includes the Rum Race series, Full Moon series, and the Spring Big Boat Regatta.

MYC will continue to run the Small Boat Sunday races for dinghy sailors.

Update: FPYC has just reported that their Spring Regatta is postponed, hopefully to be rescheduled in May or June.

MYC Small Boat Sunday is on

From MYC:

Small Boat Sunday Sailing is ON!

Sailing your single-handed Sunfish or Laser is the perfect way to practice social distancing. Double-handed 420s can be sailed by two family members.  Space Coast Sailing will have a challenge for kids skippering a parent or other family member as crew.    Karen will be setting up a racecourse for a 1:00 PM starting time.  The long range forecast is is dry with mid-teen winds. The bar will be closed but the racecourse is open.  While ashore, please do practice social distancing (see image above –ed) but don’t let that spoil a good sailing day.

If you want to sail a 420, please let Phil know at 321-514-2525 or pspletter@cfl.rr.com.  MYC members will have priority.
