The Dragon Point Women’s Race Series is so named because the racing takes place near a vanished but not forgotten local landmark, Annie the dragon at tip of Merritt Island.  Annie fell on hard times when she was badly damaged by a storm in 2002, but local sailors have continued to racing near the confluence of the Indian and Banana Rivers despite her absence.

Indian River Yacht Club organizes a race for the ladies-only teams almost once a month, with a one design class for J/24 Fleet 87 and a PHRF class for all other racers.
